Carlos Damas, born in Coimbra, Portugal in 1973, is an internationally acclaimed violinist recognized for his expressive style and refined interpretations. He began playing at the age of three and made his solo debut at fifteen with the Portuguese Radio Symphony Orchestra. His advanced studies in Paris under Jacqueline Lefèvre and Ivry Gitlis, as well as guidance from Yehudi Menuhin, shaped his artistry and launched his international career.
Renowned for his interpretations of Fritz Kreisler, Damas has received high praise from leading classical music publications. He has also championed Portuguese composers, recording world premieres of works by António Fragoso, Luís de Freitas Branco, Fernando Lopes-Graça, and Sérgio Azevedo. His extensive discography spans from canonical repertoire to modern and lesser-known works, helping to bring Portuguese musical heritage to global audiences.
As a soloist, Damas has performed with major orchestras across Europe, Asia, and North America, including appearances at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center. Alongside his concert career, he is an educator, holding a PhD in Education and Psychology of Music and teaching at the University of Évora. He performs on an 18th-century Giovanni Battista Gabrielli violin, continuing to combine tradition with artistic innovation.
