City String Ensemble is a London-based string collective that re-imagines contemporary and popular music through classically trained skill. What began as a string quartet from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama has since expanded into a full-scale ensemble known for inventive arrangements of pop, rock, film, anime, and video game scores. Their signature style—complete with percussive bowing and rhythmic “chopping”—challenges traditional expectations and brings a fresh approach to string performance.
They’ve performed across the UK at concerts, weddings, celebrity events, and premieres, including the London launch of Bridgerton Season 2. Their EPs—Twenty Twenty, Throwback…to the Millennium, and Best of Anime—have drawn wide attention, and streaming numbers climb steadily. Their CSE Performs Taylor Swift project adds to their reputation for stylish, genre-blending sound, and their shows are celebrated for blending classical technique with playful energy and audience connection.
