Lavinia Meijer is a Dutch harpist acclaimed for her versatility and pioneering approach to the instrument. Born in South Korea in 1983 and adopted by a Dutch family at the age of two, she began playing harp at nine and quickly showed extraordinary promise. She went on to study at the Utrecht Conservatory and later the Amsterdam Conservatory, graduating with the highest honors. Early in her career, she earned top prizes at international competitions and performed with leading orchestras, establishing herself as one of the most prominent harp soloists of her generation.
Meijer is widely recognized for expanding the harp repertoire beyond traditional boundaries. She has collaborated with contemporary composers such as Philip Glass and Ludovico Einaudi, personally transcribing their works for harp with their blessing. Her interpretations of minimal and modern music have reached broad audiences, with albums like Passaggio and In a Landscape charting internationally and introducing the harp to listeners outside the classical world.
In addition to her recordings, Meijer tours extensively, performing in prestigious venues across Europe, Asia, and the United States. She has been praised not only for her technical brilliance but also for her ability to create intimate, atmospheric performances that bring the harp into new artistic contexts. Today, she continues to bridge classical tradition with contemporary innovation, making her a leading figure in redefining what the harp can express.
